Founded in 2015, Friends of Kent Free Library is a volunteer organization that supports library services, collections, and programs. 

Get Involved

To join, complete a Membership Form and return it to the library with payment. Payments may be cash or check payable to Friends of Kent Free Library. Find Friends of Kent Free Library on Facebook to stay current on volunteer activities and news.

Book Sales

Friends of Kent Free Library host two book sales annually. One in April and one in October. They also host pop-up sales during warm weather months.

Spring Book Sale: April 24 - 27 Shop thousands of gently used books, DVDs, and music CDs for adults and children, April 24 – 27 in the library’s lower level. Items have been discarded from the library’s collection and donated by the community. 

Sale hours are: 

  • THU, APR 24 from 5 – 8 PM: Members Only Preview. Memberships may be purchased at the door.
  • FRI, APR 25 from 10 AM – 4 PM
  • SAT, APR 26 from 10 AM – 4 PM: Scanners permitted; ISBN scanners are not permitted any days other than Saturday.
  • SUN, APR 27 from 1:30 – 4:30 PM: $5 Bag Sale, 1/2 off AV

All sales final. Cash, Check, or Venmo only; no credit/debit. All proceeds go to Friends of Kent Free Library to support library programs and services.

Monthly Meetings

Friends of Kent Free Library meet on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7 PM in the Bumphrey Room in January, March, May, July, September, and November. Meetings are open to the public and subject to change.

Volunteer Opportunities - Book Sorting

Volunteers sort books most Tuesdays from 1 - 3 PM. Volunteers must be current Friends members. Volunteers receive a coupon to exchange for a free book for each shift worked. For more information, email friendsofkfl@gmail.com.

Donate Books and Other Materials

Donors may drop off acceptable materials in the collection bin inside the parking lot entrance. Large donations, more than one bag or box at a time, may be arranged by contacting the Library Director, Stacey Richardson, at stacey.richardson@kentfreelibrary.org.

Board of Directors

A seven-member Board of Directors governs Friends of Kent Free Library. Board members are elected annually. The Friends work in collaboration with the library’s Director and Board of Trustees to support and enhance the programs and services the library offers to the community.
