Get a Library Card
Apply in person for a library card at any service desk in the library. You will need to show a photo ID with proof of your current address. If your ID does not show your address, provide a utility bill, lease agreement, or other official document with your current address received in the mail or electronically. Patrons 17 and under must have a parent or guardian present to apply for a juvenile card.
A library cards allows you to:
- Check out books, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, and other physical items in our collection
- Place holds on items in the catalog
- Access public computers at the library
- Access online resources and borrow from digital collections
Kent Free Library is a member of the Portage Library Consortium. Your Kent Free Library Card can be used at any public library in Portage County. Patrons may only have a library card from one of the Portage Library Consortium libraries.
If you lose your library card, contact the library as soon as possible to report it missing. Replacement cards are available at the Checkout Desk. There is no fee to replace your card, unless it needs to be replaced more than once. The replacement fee is $1.00.
Three for Me Cards
Minors 17 and under, without a parent or guardian present, may apply on their own for a restricted library card. A Three for Me card allows minors to borrow up to three print items at a time. This card is intended to assist students in obtaining materials needed for school related projects or personal reading.
Sign Up for a Digital Card
Digital cards are available for Kent residents who are at least 18 years old and who do not already have a digital card at Kent Free Library or a regular card in Portage County. You do not need to visit the library to sign up for a digital card.
A digital card provides access to the library's digital collections to:
- Borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital magazines
- Download or stream music, movies, or TV shows
- Attend online classes
- Use online research tools and resources
To apply for a digital card complete the application. Once the application is submitted, your digital card number and PIN will be emailed to you within three business days.
A digital card can be upgraded to a regular library card at the library's Checkout Desk during open hours. You will need a photo ID and proof of your current address to upgrade.
